Chile: meat consumption increases

In 2013, meat consumption grew by 9.7%, reaching a record of 89.1 kg: the highest historic figure.

According to the data published by the National Statistics Institute of Chile, in year 2008, Chileans consumed a total of 81.2 kg of meat per capita, a digit that increased by 9.7% in 2013, reaching a record of 89.1 kg: the highest historic figure.

Regarding the kind of meat, in 2008, 33.0 kg of fowl, 25.0 kg of pork, 22.1 kg of beef and 0.8 kg of other meats were consumed, and the situation evolved mainly thanks to the increase in the consumption of fowl, that in 2013 reached a record of 37.5 kg. On the other hand, in 2013, pork consumption reached 26.6 kg, and beef consumption 24.4 kg.
