Pig slaughter in Brazil reached a record of 60.69 million heads (hd) in 2025, representing an increase of 4.3% (2.51 million hd) compared to the previous year. The data are part of the complete results of the Quarterly Survey of Animal Slaughter, published by the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE). This resulted in the historical highest of the series since 1997, was driven by record export volumes and reduced production costs in the country throughout the year.
Santa Catarina maintained its national leadership in pig slaughter, accounting for 28.2% of the total processed in Brazil, followed by Parana (21.2%) and Rio Grande do Sul (17.9%).

In the export market, the Philippines stood out, accounting for 25.8% of all pork exported by Brazil during the year.
The strong performance of pork production is part of a broader context of growth in Brazilian livestock production, which reached record figures its main industries. Cattle slaughter reached 42.94 million hd, representing a significant increase of 8.2% compared to 2024. According to an IBGE researcher, this market was characterized by strong domestic and international demand, as well as a high share of females, which accounted for 46.8% of slaughter. Growth in cattle production was observed in 25 of the 27 federal units, with Sao Paulo, Para, and Rondonia showing the strongest increases. With the rise in cattle supply, leather acquisition by tanneries also reached a record, with 44.03 million whole hides.
