The Friedrich Loeffler Institute (FLI) has confirmed the presence of African swine fever (ASF) in a wild boar carcass in the Hochsauerland district. This is the first positive case of ASF in wild boar in this district of North Rhine-Westphalia. The carcass was found within restriction zone II, which covers parts of the districts of Olpe, Siegen-Wittgenstein, and Hochsauerland.

No further positive ASF cases have been found so far. The area is being searched for further carcasses by canine search teams and drones.

The Hochsauerland district, the State Office for Consumer Protection and Food Safety (LAVE), and the Ministry of Agriculture and Consumer Protection are coordinating the possible expansion of the protection zones.
