Within the framework of the Chacinar Festival, in Tandil, the National Service for Agrifood Health and Quality (SENASA) presented the main guidelines of the new National Plan for the Control and Eradication of Aujeszky's Disease, which affects all domestic pig production facilities in Argentina.

During technical sessions organized by the local Swine Cluster, the Faculty of Veterinary Sciences of UNICEN and the Group of Swine Technicians and Producers (GTPC), agents from the National Swine Disease Program and the Buenos Aires South Regional Center spoke about the regulatory update —SENASA Resolution 810/2025— which establishes the sanitary classification of establishments “free”, “under surveillance,” and “Swine Finisher with Aujeszky Protection (IPPA)”.

Before local authorities, technicians, producers, and businesses in the swine industry, it was explained how this new strategy can be integrated into the initiatives carried out by the private sector with the Comprehensive Pork Organization Plan (PIOP), which seeks to organize swine activity and the eradication and closure of farms that represent a sanitary risk.

Among other key points, the professionals from the national agency explained how to strengthen sanitary actions such as technical advice, the sanitation of positive establishments, and vaccinations based on the regulatory update, where the role of veterinarians accredited in Swine Health and Welfare becomes relevant, as well as the formation of "Swine Health Entities" to carry out these tasks in establishments with fewer than 100 sows.

Also highlighted was the importance of biosecurity measures and movement control according to the sanitary situation included in the new National Plan that will come into effect from April 2026.

With the new regulatory framework (which will come into effect next year, repealing Resolution 474/2009), pig producers must consider the tasks they will need to implement. Among the most important are:

  • Genetic nuclei and commercial breeding facilities with more than 100 sows must be certified as disease-free with a serological test every four months. The category of "negative establishments" will be eliminated.
  • Infected properties must immediately submit a sanitation plan, prepared by an accredited veterinarian. This plan must be updated every six months.
  • IPPAs (multi-origin finishers) will have six months to adapt their facilities, implement mandatory vaccination, and isolate all animals entering their establishments after the new plan takes effect.
  • Producer associations and/or related entities wishing to expedite the Plan and implement the delegated health actions (described therein) must register as a Sanitary Entity and formalize this status with SENASA.
