Argentina: important pig production increase

The Argentinian Ministry of Agriculture informed that pig production rose by 22.2% during the first seven months of 2013 in comparison with the same period of year 2012.

The Argentinian Ministry of Agriculture informed that pig production rose by 22.2% during the first seven months of 2013 in comparison with the same period of year 2012.

According to what appears in the last pig sector monthly bulletin of the Department of Stockbreeding, between January and July 2012 the production of pig meat with bone was 188,122 tonnes, whilst during the same period in 2013 the figures reached 229,989 tonnes.

So, this sector confirms a constant production increase during the last 10 years: during this period, pig production has accumulated a growth by 93.5%.

In turn, pig meat consumption increased by 22.2% during the first semester of 2013 with respect with the same period of year 2012. From 8.2 kg consumed per inhabitant in 2013, 10 kg were reached in 2013. Between years 2002 and 2012, consumption has also experienced a continuous growth, because it accumulates a rise by 71.6%.
