Argentina: important growth of the swine and fowl sectors

In the last 10 years production grew by 109%.

According to the data of the Ministry of Industry of Argentina, in the last 10 years, fowl production has increased by 170%, swine production by 109%, and dairy production by 43%. The consumption per capita regarding these three food sectors raised by 9.2 and 5% as an annual average, respectively, between years 2003 and 2012.

The Minister of Industry, Ms. Débora Giorgi, emphasized that "the fowl, dairy and swine sectors have an enormous growth potential, not only for supplying the domestic market, but for having an exportation market”.

Swine sector

In the last 10 years, production has grown by 109% (at a yearly average of 9%). The consumption per capita has risen by 60% since 2003 (5% from year to year).

Year 2012 exportations grew by 57% with respect to the previous year. Since 2003 they grew by 5% each year.

The different players of the food chain agreed on reaching a production of 822,000 tonnes in 2020 (331,000 tonnes were produced in 2012) and a consumption of 13 kg per capita (9 kg per capita were consumed in 2012).
