The Argentine Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries reported that the first shipment of 26 tons of value-added refrigerated ham and pork shoulder is destined for the People's Republic of China.

The shipment was made by the company, Campo Austral, from its packing plant in San Andrés de Giles, in the province of Buenos Aires.

This action is the result of Chinese customs' recent approval of 8 more pork packing plants.

The Chinese market for this meat product was opened last April after a negotiation process involving national agricultural offices, Senasa and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Campo Austral, the company that is sending this first shipment, is one of the first three plants to receive authorization from China.
