With the advancement of pig farming in recent years, Acre is now among the top ten pig-producing states in Brazil. According to the governor, the expansion will lead to more development and job creation in the state.

The work carried out by the state government, through the Institute for Agricultural and Forestry Defense (Idaf-AC), in the inspection and control of animal health has been fundamental to the progress made. Since 2016, the World Organization for Animal Health has recognized Acre as a Classical Swine Fever Free Zone.

Pork consumption has grown in the Dominican Republic, but national production is not self-sufficient. Last year, 120,000 tons were imported and in 2023, 130,000 tons are expected, according to a projection by the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA).
