Back in the 1960s, the technique of artificial insemination of farm animals was still in its infancy when Dr. Ludwig Simmet began his work as a specialist veterinarian for breeding hygiene at the Lower Bavarian Insemination Cooperative Landshut-Pocking eG (NBG). Driven by the emerging opportunities and dissatisfied with the existing range of products on the market, Dr. Simmet developed a novel technique for deep-freezing bull semen. This innovative technology led to the patent registration of his "Minitüb System" in 1968, which - for the first time in the world - allowed bull semen to be filled fully automatically into plastic tubes. The year 1970 was to become a milestone: Dr. Ludwig Simmet and his wife Irmingard founded the company "Minitüb Abfülltechnik GmbH" (“Minitüb Filling Technology Ltd”) for the development, production and sale of products and technologies for the artificial insemination of farm animals and pets.

Today, Minitube with ten subsidiaries worldwide is a leading specialist supplier for the animal breeding industry and has remained a family-owned business, in which the third generation has now joined the management. Steadily growing turnover and employee numbers, numerous patents, independent certifications and awards, as well as the worldwide acknowledged professional expertise attest to the crisis-proof orientation of the company, especially in times of a global economic recession. Aiming to make a valuable contribution to the production of healthy and sustainable food, alone more than 130 employees are currently working at the headquarters in Tiefenbach in the areas of research and development, production, quality management, the production of pharmaceutical media, sales and logistics, among others.

Although the planned celebration of the company's 50th anniversary had to be postponed by one year due to the restrictions imposed by the corona crisis, Dr. Ludwig Simmet's legacy will be preserved and perpetuated in the future - thanks to the efforts of around 400 dedicated employees of Minitube companies around the world who are committed to developing new and continuously improved technologies in animal reproduction.
