METEX NØØVISTAGO has published 7 R&D papers during the 54th Journées de la Recherche Porcine dedicated to swine research the 1st and 2nd of February 2022 in Paris. The scientific results that have been presented cover important market concerns such as digestive health, performance, and sustainability and were obtained in partnership with customers or long-standing research partners (INRAe, WUR, LAVAL university, ILVO).

William Lambert, Scientific and Technical Manager for METEX NØØVISTAGO explains: "All studies presented at JRP directly reflect our R&D key topics in swine. First, with our new amino acids, going one step further in the crude protein decrease is possible without compromising performance in both piglets and fattening pigs. In piglets, trials have shown direct benefits on digestive health and behavior whereas in pigs, we validated models assessing the positive impacts of those strategies on nitrogen emissions and carbon footprint. Finally, two oral communication regarding functional amino acids open some new perspectives regarding the use of feed-grade amino acids."

Functional amino acids, the new paradigm

Indeed, over the last year, METEX NØØVISTAGO R&D team has been busy understanding the functional aspect of amino acids and their roles during critical and challenging periods in order to design adapted solutions. The first results presented during the 2nd Amino Acid Academy (October 2021, Paris) and the works published during the JRP are logical next steps and materialize this “new vision of the amino acids”: beyond nutrition, focusing on function. Tristan Chalvon Demersay, Innovation and New Products Manager, details the first outcomes: “The first trial presented has shown that a synergistic combination of functional amino acids and selected polyphenols has the potential to mitigate the negative effect of weaning on performance and, more interestingly, to affect positively microbiota activity in the hindgut. The second work goes one step beyond, showing that an adequate supply of functional amino acids can help pigs to better cope with an induced challenge (PRRS) and to maintain performance”.
