Laila Darwich and Joan Pujols, researchers of CReSA, participated as speakers at the International Seminar on Swine Reproductive and Respiratory Diseases, held last 21-25 October in Colombia.

The seminar was organized by the Colombian Association of Pig Producers (ACP) and served to share knowledge and experiences with Colombian pig producers. This fact can certainly help to improve productivity and competitiveness of the sector.

Mainly, aspects on epidemiology, diagnosis and control of respiratory and reproductive diseases were discussed, but also clinical cases related to these diseases. Moreover, the speakers had the opportunity to explain the major research programs in swine health carried out at CReSA nowadays.

The seminar was held on 21, 22, 24 and October 25 in Medellin, Cali, Pereira and Bogotà, respectively, due to the location in the departments with the largest pig production in the country.

The presentations made were as follows:

  • Introduction to the scientific program on swine health in course at CReSA (Joan Pujols and Laila Darwich)
  • Epidemiology, clinical symptoms and lesions in swine respiratory diseases: differential diagnosis. Porcine Respiratory Disease Complex (Laila Darwich)
  • Laboratory diagnosis and control of swine respiratory diseases (Laila Darwich)
  • Clinical cases of swine respiratory diseases (Laila Darwich)
  • Epidemiology, clinical symptoms and lesions of swine reproductive diseases: differential diagnosis (Joan Pujols)
  • Laboratory diagnosis and control of swine reproductive diseases (Joan Pujols)
  • Clinical cases of swine reproductive diseases (Joan Pujols)
