The next International Pig Veterinary Society Congress (2026) will be held in Ho Chi Minh City, Viet Nam

The 28th IPVS congress (2026) will be held Ho Chi Minh City from June 16 to 19, 2026.

Pig production always plays a key role in agricultural sector in order to provide food for human in the world. Due to the growing of population and economy, pig production have had to increase in terms of quality and quantity of meat in the industrial scale. The application of advanced technologies have been improved significantly productivity; however, the issue of diseases has still been a hug challenge to pig production. Diseases have no longer spread locally, but they can be transmitted across countries, continents within the currently inter-connected world. To overcome these challenges, those who work in pig production and veterinary should work together to share experiences, knowlegde, perspectives and opportunities toward the common purpose for the sustainable development of pig production and health management. The International Pig Veterinary Society (IPVS) was created in 1967 for this noble objective, then the first IPVS congress was organised in Cambridge, the United Kingdom in 1969. Since then, the congresses have been held internationally every two years for meeting of those interested in swine production and medicine. Until now, there have been 27 congresses hosted in many countries of all continents, and the coming 27th Society will be held in Germany in June, 2024.

Hosting the International Pig Veterinary Society (IPVS) congress is a great honor for a country in the “global playground.” It is not only a recognition of development in swine production and medicine but also the trust of recent advances in other public services of this country. In addition, with a large number of participants from all over the world (more than 3,000 delegates), hosting the congress also creates an great opportunity for tourism industry and for promoting culture of that country to the international society. Definitely, these things contribute positively to the host country's economy and diplomacy. In order to obtain the permit for hosting an IPVS congress, an organization representative for national Pig Veterinary Society in the candidate countries have to submit the detailed plan which illustrates persuable, relevant reasons for organzing in the country, and capacity profile of the local organizers. The nominated applications have to defense this plan in front of the general assembly of the IPVS to be selected.

Viet Nam has developed pig production for many years and ranked top five coutry about the total pig herd in the word. Many Vietnamese pig veterinary experts as well as those who work in this field always wish that Viet Nam will host the IPVS congress in some days. Eventually, the 28th IPVS congress (2026) will officially be held Ho Chi Minh City (HCMC) from June 16 to 19, 2026 with the great efforts of Vietnamese pig veterinary community and Nong Lam University in HCMC and this university will be the key host for this event. As the role of organizer, Nong Lam University HCMC would like to share this proud, important event to Vietnamese swine veterinary society and others around the world. This congress promises to offer helpful information and opportunities to connect everyone in the society successfully.
