Congratulations to IRTA, the Institute of Agriculture and Food Research and Technology of the Catalonian government in Spain as the overall winner of the first annual Golden Microsope Award! Chosen by web visitors and Meat International magazine readers, IRTA won for their research paper entitled "Antimicrobial packaging for controlling listeria."

Shown here, from left to right are Teresa Aymerich, Researcher, IRTA Food Microbiology; Dr Margarita Garriga, IRTA Head of Food Microbiology, and Robert Vink, Editor of Meat International Magazine

The winner will also be announced in our e-newsletter and published in Meat International in January 2009.

Several editions ago we launched the Golden Microscope Award competition, inviting meat companies and research institutes to submit research papers for review. Each month, one paper was chosen from all the papers submitted that month and given worldwide exposure in Meat International magazine.

Click here to review the IRTA's award winning research paper.

We would like to thank all the companies and institutes that submitted meat research papers in 2008 and invite them and new participants to submit research papers for the 2009 Golden Microscope Award competition.

Research papers can be forwarded directly to me at: robert.vink@reedbusiness.nl

Again thanks to all participants and we look forward to another successful competition!

Robert Vink,
Editor, Meat International
