The European Commission has made a decision on guidelines on biofuel sustainability and certification

Genencor applauds the European Commission’s decision to encourage industry, governments and NGOs to set up certification schemes that guarantee the use of sustainable biofuels in Europe. The publication of the sustainability guidelines provides clear direction on how to build a more sustainable transport sector in the EU.

“We expect this announcement to bolster investors confidence in the sector which will translate into real, long-term investments,” commented Philippe Lavielle, EVP Business Development. “As a leading technology provider to the industry, we remain committed to working with all biofuels players in order to accelerate market development in the EU and enable the EU to gain from the benefits of this alternative to fossil fuel.”

The published rules for certification schemes are part of a set of guidelines that will help the European Member States implement the Renewable Energy Directive at national level.
