Dr Karsten Maier announced as new UECBV Secretary General

On Wednesday 3rd April 2019, UECBV, The European Livestock and Meat Trades Union, appointed Dr Karsten Maier as the new Secretary General of the organisation.

uecbv 2Dr Maier is German and graduated from the University of Hohenheim, Institute for Farm Management, specialised in agronomy and economics. With over 25 years of professional experience in associations for industry and agriculture, Dr Maier has gained deep knowledge on an extensive range of agricultural dossiers. In particular, he acquired “Farm – Food – Feed – Fuel” skills across industries and throughout the value-added chain and good knowledge of the structures and workings within politics, government agencies and scientific world, at both domestic and EU level.

Commenting on the appointment, Margaret Boanas, Vice-President of UECBV said “Dr Maier has an excellent track record of leadership and engagement across the agribusiness sector. We are confident in his ability to build with UECBV members, EU Institutions and stakeholders new perspectives to address the challenges faced by the meat sector in Europe, such as Civil Society's expectations on food, supply security, trade globalisation and EU meat sector competitiveness, research and innovation towards a sustainable and efficient meat industry.”

Dr Maier will be replacing Mr Jean-Luc Mériaux, UECBV Secretary General since 1980.
