Nearly two extra weaned piglets in just two years
2024 marks a new milestone in herd productivity for DanBred. The latest figures reveal that DanBred customers in Denmark have achieved an impressive average of 36.2 weaned piglets per sow per year. This milestone reflects a second consecutive year of improvement, following a similar gain in 2023. In just two years, DanBred customers have increased productivity by nearly two additional weaned piglets. A result that contributes directly to the bottom line for DanBred customers.
“We are delivering strong improvements to our customers. The latest benchmark data from countries around the world confirm a similar trend to what we see in Denmark: improved performance in DanBred herds with record-high productivity,” says Torben Aarris, CEO at DanBred.

The increase in weaned piglets is a direct result of a significant improvement of 0.9 percentage points in piglet survival, combined with an increase of 0.3 live-born piglets.

Finisher performance makes another significant step up
The standards DanBred sets for finisher efficiency are well known. Latest figures from DanBred finisher herds in Denmark show a remarkable improvement with an average daily gain of 1,065 grams from 30 kg to slaughter, this is a 32-gram improvement in daily gain in just one year.
This is backed by a reduction of 0.047 kg feed per kg gain compared to 2023. Saving the average DanBred finisher herd 4 kg of feed per pig from 30 kg to slaughter.
These improvements is a direct result of the strong and consistent link between higher growth and improved feed efficiency. In simple terms: DanBred pigs grow faster are getting more feed efficient.
“Once again, DanBred results clearly document how our ongoing genetic progress delivers measurable improvements in commercial herds - translating into real value for pig producers through stronger, faster growing pigs with better feed efficiency,” says Peter M. Mathiasen, Supply Chain & Operations Director at DanBred.
These results are not just numbers - they are a clear testimonial of profit form progress. The consistent improvement in the number of weaned piglets, average daily gain, and improved feed efficiency are a direct result of DanBred’s breeding strategy. Turning genetic potential into real-world performance, DanBred enables pig producers to achieve more with less. This is our commitment to sustainable, high-performance pig production world-wide.
