The 8th edition of the Europorc Conference will shortly begin, organised by the Municipal Institute of Development and Economy of Vic, Barcelona Chamber of Commerce, Caixa Manlleu and Generalitat de Catalunya's Department of Agriculture, Food and Rural Action.

In this year's edition we are very pleased to have the involvement of a number of internationally renowned professionals including Mr Carlo Trojan, former general secretary of the European Commission and chairman of the International Food and Agricultural Trade Policy Council; Mr Xavier Sala Martín, economist and lecturer at Columbia University and Barcelona's Pompeu Fabra University; and Mr Manfred Kern, departmental head of Bayer Corp. Science in Germany.

As a matter of urgency, we have added a special session on swine flu.

For this special session, we will have Mrs Laura Batista, chairwoman of the Mexican Association of Pig Veterinarians (by videoconference); Mr Antonio Muñoz, professor at University of Murcia and principal researcher of the "Pig Rearing and Health" group; and Mr Joan Sanmartí, graduate in veterinary medicine from the Faculty of Zaragoza and founding partner of Optimal Pork Production.
