Approximately 15-20 days after entering the growth phase, generalized coughing and weight loss were noted. The morbidity rate was almost 30% and the mortality rate was 4-6 %.

Arrigo graduated from the University Of Veterinary Medicine Of Bologna in 1978. The beginning of his professional career was dedicated to infectious diseases, microbiology and food safety in scientific research. From 1980 to 1992 he was head of swine and bovine diagnostics, and food security at the Institute of Experimental Zooprofilaxis Lombardy and Emilia in the Mantua section where he also conducts on-site support, especially in the pig sector. He has also has been a hog producer. In 1992 he was appointed General Director of the Mantua section of the same institute.
He has published over 150 titles, including articles, conference presentations and books in pigs.
