Significant gains are anticipated for the EU dairy and pig meat sectors, two sectors which have struggled in recent years and which are now showing signs of recovery.

Analysing the EU export performance over the last 12 months per product category, export values increased in particular for pig meat (€+1.2 billion; +31% compared to export values in the 12-months period one year ago).

This agreement will allow to speed up the inspection, certification and validation processes of goods between both countries, with the resulting benefit for the Chilean agricultural and livestock export sector.

This network will help to strengthen the management systems related to the production of healthy food in the region and in each of the countries.

The meat will have to come from animals born and raised in the area of the country free of foot-and-mouth disease with vaccination and will have to be slaughtered in plants authorised by the national health body.

EU producers will receive an increased budget of €133 million in 2017 to promote EU agricultural products outside and inside the EU and to continue finding new markets.

The FAO Meat Price Index also fell, dropping 1.0 percent in October, with the drop largely driven by slacker demand for European pigmeat from importers in China.

The rise in import volumes has slowed as the year progressed. Volumes for Q2 and Q3 were up only 6%, compared to the 20% increase in shipments seen at the start of the year.

For January through September, export volume was 5 percent above last year’s pace at 1.66 million mt.
