African swine fever is rapidly spreading in many localities across the country, with nearly 30,000 pigs infected and more than 30,000 pigs dead or culled. Currently, there are 248 outbreaks in 20 provinces and cities that have not passed the 21-day threshold. The main causes are the lack of vaccination, poor biosecurity, and complacency among farmers.
In Da Nang, the disease has appeared in four communes, killing 125 pigs. In particular, Xuan Phu commune has reported rapid spread to 44 households, forcing the culling of over 70 pigs. Authorities have distributed disinfectant chemicals, set up checkpoints, launched a mass vaccination campaign, and implemented controls on pig transportation.

In Phu Tho, the outbreak has affected 224 households in 34 communes and wards, resulting in the culling of over 1,500 pigs. Violations related to illegal transportation and slaughtering have been strictly handled. The People’s Committee of Da Nang City and other provinces have established Steering Committees to strengthen surveillance, ensure adequate supply of disinfectants and vaccines, and ensure timely and transparent culling processes.
A representative from the Department of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Services stated that the disease is on an upward trend, especially in small-scale farms, due to lack of vaccination and the careless disposal of pig carcasses. The Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development has dispatched multiple inspection teams to support disease control efforts in key provinces.
