According to the 2025 Domestic Market Report by the Department of Domestic Market Management and Development (Ministry of Industry and Trade), per capita pork consumption in Vietnam is projected to reach nearly 39 kg/person/year by 2025 (based on carcass weight). With this figure, Vietnam currently ranks fourth in the world and leads Southeast Asia in pork consumption.
In recent years, pork consumption has steadily increased, from approximately 30 kg/person in 2021 to 37 kg in 2024. Pork currently accounts for 63.68% of total livestock product consumption, playing a dominant role in the food structure and significantly impacting the Consumer Price Index (CPI) due to its high proportion in household spending.

On the supply side, the pig farming industry continues to shift from small-scale to concentrated, semi-industrial, and industrial farms, applying biosecurity standards and emission reduction measures. Total pork production in 2025 is estimated at 5.4 million tons, an increase of approximately 5% compared to the previous year. Meanwhile, pork imports are expected to reach around 200,000 tons, a 14% increase in volume, but import prices have decreased.
The abundant supply is the main reason for the drop in live pig prices, from 65,000–75,000 VND/kg in the first half of the year to 54,000–55,000 VND/kg by the end of the year, putting significant pressure on the efficiency of pig farming.
