The Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) of the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) has revised and updated its Directive on approved substancesin the production of meat, poultry and egg products.

This directive provides staff with an inspection program containing an updated list of substances that can be used in the production of meat, poultry or egg products. The FSIS specifically reviewed two antimicrobials and a new binder ingredient, and added 4 film-forming agents and 1 antimicrobial. It also approved various antimicrobial intervention systems for reprocessing.
