Faced with substantial losses as a result of escalating feed costs, pig farmers are launching a multi-million pound advertising campaign.

About three-quarters of all pig farmers are making losses currently and the advertising campaign is aimed at reminding shoppers to buy high-welfare British pork, bacon and sausages.

The campaign is being organised by the National Pig Association, which is using roadside fields to display 15 feet high banners with slogans such as "Yes! Yes! Yes! to British Pork" and "Made in Britain — perfect British bacon".

All the banners prominently display the iconic and well-known Red Tractor symbol, which shows food has been produced on British farms to high-welfare, environmental and safety standards.

So far more than 270 banners have gone up around the country and more are being erected every day.
