On May 12, trade officials from the United States and China announced that the U.S. will, for a period of 90 days, reduce tariffs on Chinese imports from 145% to 30%, with China agreeing to reduce retaliatory duties from 125% to 10%.

According to the U.S. Meat Export Federation (USMEF), although this is a temporary measure, it could represent a first step toward restoring access for U.S. pork and beef to the Chinese market.
