Thailand’s food production fell 3.5% in the first six months of this year as the credit crunch lowered demand for food products, hampering the use of the production capacity.

Only 51.5% of production capacity was used, lower than the same period last year. However the production index has been improving since the fourth quarter last year and this is expected to continue in the second half of this year. The whole year's food export value is expected shrink 7.2% to THB 722 billion (USD 21.15 billion).
