According to the latest data published by CEXGAN, Spanish exports of pork and pork preparations to third countries in 2025 showed a slight recovery over 2024, reaching a total of 1,353,294 tons, representing a 2.6% increase compared to the previous year.

This growth occurred in a context marked by African swine fever appearing in Spain at the end of November and by the continued decline in shipments to China, which has significantly reduced its share in total exports after peaking in 2020.
Although there are clear repercussions from the ASF outbreak, with highly relevant markets such as Japan and the Philippines effectively closed after the confirmation, it will be necessary to wait for consolidated figures to accurately quantify the decline, since the month of December still includes shipments to these destinations.
China, which received almost 1.4 million tons in 2020, continues to lose ground as a destination for Spanish pork. In 2025, shipments to China reached 517,082 tons, a 6.1% decrease compared to 2024 and far from the volumes recorded during the peak demand period following the ASF outbreak in China. This trend confirms a structural adjustment in the Chinese market, driven by both the recovery of its domestic production and changes in its import policy.
In contrast to this decline, other Asian markets had consolidated their role as pillars of diversification, especially Japan and the Philippines. However, as already mentioned, both destinations are currently closed, so the impact will be reflected in the coming months both in the total export volume and in the diversification of destinations.
In 2025, the Philippines overtook Japan to become the second-largest export destination for Spanish pork by volume, with 169,170 tons, although this represented a 9.1% decrease compared to 2024. Japan remained in third place with 168,208 tons, experiencing a year-on-year decline of 13.5%. South Korea, which has embraced the principle of regionalization following the ASF outbreak in Spain, registered a strong recovery, with 135,886 tons, a nearly 50% growth compared to the previous year, reinforcing its position as a key market in Asia.
Great Britain, which ranked fifth, continued its clearly upward trajectory from 2021, reaching 62,846 tons in 2025, the highest volume in the series.
