Wild boar population reduction and capture data

Currently, the Rural Agent Corps is carrying out captures in the high-risk area with more than 750 personnel, using pigbrig traps (collective traps) that allow the capture of large numbers of wild boar while preventing their dispersion.

At the same time, for the past six week, and in accordance with regulations and expert committee guidance, the Department of Agriculture has been coordinating and authorizing targeted hunts in low-risk area during weekends. These hunts are conducted through hunting associations in collaboration with municipalities, mobilizing around 200 hunters and 300 dogs.

Additionally, a new capture system has recently been implemented for the first time, stand hunting ("guardados"), which allows continuous monitoring of wild boar presence and involves approximately 100 hunters during the week.

To date, wild boar captures within the infected zone reached 2,366 animals, 1,641 in the high-risk area and 725 in the low-risk area (DARPA).

According to statements by the Minister of Agriculture, Òscar Ordeig, a total of 22,233 wild boars have been captured in Catalonia since January 1st, excluding captured within the infected zone.
