Last year imports of pork from Russia increased by 2.5% to around 657,000 tons. The sharp decline in imports from Brazil (91,000 tons) was offset by increased imports of pork from the EU (up 47 700 tons, from 287,800 in 2010 to 335,000 in 2011) and Canada (up 45,000 tons, from 67,100 in 2010 to 112,000 in 2011).

Specifically, within the EU, Germany remains the leading exporter with a total of 110,300 tons while last year imports to Russia were reduced by 1,700 tons. In contrast, Denmark, Spain and France increased their exports of pork to Russia by 7,700, 21,800 and 2,200 tons respectively, reaching 80,300 , 50,800 and 34,500 tons, respectively.
