Russia: Pig production up almost 10% in January/February

Livestock and poultry production increased by 4.7% for January/February.

According to the latest data from the Russian Ministry of Agriculture, in January/February 2020, livestock and poultry production for slaughter on all farms amounted to 2.3 million tons live weight, which is up 4.7% from the same period in 2019. The main increase was due to an increase in pig production (+9.7%), poultry (+2.3%) and cattle (+1.3%).

According to preliminary estimates, in 2020, live weight production of livestock and poultry will amount to 15.4 million tonnes, which is 1.7% (+259.6 thousand tonnes) higher than last year. The production of pigs for slaughter is expected to increase by 4%, cattle by 0.8%, poultry by 0.5%, and sheep and goats by 0.5%.
