According to data published by the GPP, provided by INE as preliminary data, live swine exports (piglets for fattening and pigs for slaughter) fell by 21.5% in 2025 compared to the same period in the previous year, going from 513,007 head in 2024 to 402,989 head in 2025 (-110,018 head). Breaking down these figures, there was a 25.3% reduction in pigs for slaughter, from 265,768 head in 2024 to 198,512 head in 2025 (-67,256 head). In the case of piglets for fattening, 204,477 heads were sold in 2025, a 17% decrease from the 247,239 heads sold in 2024.
The total weight of these animals decreased by 22.5% compared to the previous year, from 30,381 tons in 2024 to 43,370 tons in 2025. The total weight of pigs for slaughter decreased by 24.2% compared to the previous year, from 31,966 tons in 2024 to 24,221 tons in 2025, giving an average weight of 122.0 kg BW (in 2024, the average weight was 120.3 kg BW). In the case of piglets, there was a 9.8% reduction in exported weight, from 4,502 tons in 2024 to 4,061 tons in 2025, giving an average weight of 19.85 kg BW (in 2024, the average weight was 18.2 kg BW). Therefore, fewer piglets left Portugal in 2025, but they were heavier than in 2024.

Portugal's pork exports increased by 43% in 2025 compared to 2024, with total foreign sales of 43,370 tons in 2025 and 30,331 tons in 2024. Sales of frozen pork increased by 11.2%, from 17,443 tons in 2024 to 19,390 tons in 2025. Fresh and chilled pork exports increased by an impressive 86.1% compared to 2024, from 12,888 tons in 2024 to 23,980 tons in 2025.
Offal exports fell by 2.1%, from 9,076 tons in 2024 to 8,886 tons in 2025.
Export value grew by 1.6%, from €170.8 million in 2024 to €173.54 million in 2025.
