Portugal: increase in the number of pigs slaughtered

Last year 5,371,797 pigs were slaughtered, an increase of 3.76% over the previous year.

According to data published in the February 2015 monthly newsletter of the National Statistical Institute (INE), the total volume of animals (in tonnes) slaughtered in 2014 (preliminary data) increased by 2.3% due to a higher slaughter of pigs and sheep (440,971 tonnes in 2013 and 451,303 tonnes in 2014).
As the number of pigs slaughtered, last year 5,371,797 pigs were slaughtered, an increase of 3.76% over the previous year.
