Philippines: DA moves to ensure pork and chicken supply for the Holidays

Currently, the Agriculture agency is monitoring the prices and supply to prevent possibilities of price spikes and shortage when the demand for these commodities increases during the holidays.

The Department of Agriculture (DA) has called chicken and pork suppliers to a consultation meeting to ensure the sufficient supply of the commodities and keep the market prices stable on September 25, 2014 in DA Central office, Quezon City.DA consulted with concerned meat stakeholders as Christmas season nears.

Currently, the Agriculture agency is monitoring the prices and supply to prevent possibilities of price spikes and shortage when the demand for these commodities increases during the holidays.

Assistant Secretary for Agribusiness and Marketing Leandro Gazmin said that the DA will submit the suggested retail price (SRP) for the two commodities to the Department of Trade in Industry, which on the other hand issues the SRP.

Gazmin also called for a regular bi-weekly meeting to closely monitor the prices of the meat commodities in the next two months. He also invited more attendees and participants from the chicken and pork market value chain to contribute in the succeeding dialogues.
