New record in German meat production

The total production of pork increased compared to 2014 by 0.8% (+43,800 tonnes) to reach 5.56 million tonnes.

Germany reached a new record in meat production in 2015. According to the Federal Statistics Office (Destatis), meat production increased by 0.3% (25,300 tonnes), reaching a total of 8.22 million tonnes.

As per pork, a total of 59.3 million pigs were slaughtered last year, an increase of 0.8% or 477,900 animals over the previous year. The volume of pigs of national origin increased by 582,900 (+1.1%), reaching 55.0 million animals, while the number of slaughtered pigs imported amounted to 4.3 million animals, which represents a decrease of 105,000 heads (−2.4%). While the total production of pork increased compared to 2014 by 0.8% (+43,800 tonnes) to reach 5.56 million tonnes, the record level of 2011 (5.60 million tonnes) was not reached.
