Mexico and Chile activated in March 2026 the electronic certification system e-Cert for the commercial exchange of live animals, livestock products and by-products, including pork, poultry, and sheep meat, as well as derivatives such as cheese and ricotta. The scheme, jointly developed by Mexico’s National Service for Agrifood Health, Safety and Quality (SENASICA) and Chile’s Agricultural and Livestock Service (SAG), is the first that Mexico implements with a trading partner specifically for the exchange of meat products, as reported by the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development on April 4, 2026.
The e-Cert replaces printed health certificates with data in XML format that are transmitted directly between the IT systems of the health authorities of both countries. As it is a Government-to-Government exchange, the documents cannot be manipulated, altered, or falsified, eliminating document fraud as a risk in the export and import chain.

The annual livestock trade between Mexico and Chile exceeds 25,000 tons, with a value of more than 100 million dollars. Pork is among the main products in this trade flow, along with poultry, sheep meat, and dairy by-products.
The system streamlines procedures between health authorities and exporters, improves shipping logistics, and positions both countries as benchmarks in international zoosanitary technological standards. SENASICA is currently working on replicating the scheme with the United States, Japan, and Brazil.
