Officials from Mexico's National Service of Health, Safety (Senasica) and the Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) met to take stock of the joint actions taken in 2022 and the projects that will be undertaken in 2023.

The Mexican and Canadian health agencies agreed to strengthen their technical and scientific collaboration in epidemiological surveillance, laboratory diagnostics, non-intrusive phytosanitary and zoosanitary inspection, and emergency response to the entry of exotic pests and diseases that could jeopardize food production and trade in North America.

Both countries share a broad sanitary and food safety culture, which has resulted in the North American region being positioned as one of the main producing areas of healthy and safe food for the world.

The executive director of International Affairs of the CFIA, Parthi Muthukumarasamy, said that in the area of food safety, his government is fine-tuning details of the Equivalence Agreement for Organic Products between the two countries, which is expected to increase trade in this type of food between the two countries, to the benefit of consumers.
