On an official mission to Southeast Asia, Minister of Agriculture and Livestock Carlos Fávaro announced an important step forward for the Brazilian swine industry: the anticipated audit mission that will evaluate 16 pork processing plants, a fundamental step toward opening the Malaysian market.
The announcement was made during a meeting with Malaysia's Minister of Agriculture and Food Security, Mohamad Sabu. The meeting was part of the mission led by President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, who made official visits to Indonesia and Malaysia between October 23 and 28, with the aim of strengthening strategic alliances and expanding Brazil's presence in the region.

In addition to progress in negotiations for the pork sector, the meeting also resulted in the resumption of trade in Brazilian poultry meat and the opening of six new markets for Brazilian agricultural products, including fish, sesame, melon, apples, and powdered eggs.
In 2024, bilateral trade between Brazil and Malaysia reached US$487.2 million, of which US$346.4 million corresponded to Brazilian exports and US$140.9 million to imports. Malaysia ranks 23rd among Brazil's main export destinations. In the agricultural sector, Brazil exported US$1.26 billion in 2024.
