The Italian Ministers of Health, Agriculture Policies and Welfare have signed the decree that bans the growing of genetically modified maize MON810.

The decision extends, for 18 months more after its coming into force, the ban already ordered by the previous interministerial decree of 12 July 2013.

The decision foresees the implementation in Italy of the new Directive on genetically modified organisms (GMO), which establishes the right of the member states to restrict or forbid their growing in their national territory.
