An agreement has been reached between Italy and Serbia for the resumption of exports of pork and pork products. The agreement, formalized through the exchange of new health certificate templates between the Italian Embassy in Belgrade and the Serbian Ministry of Agriculture, puts an end to the total import ban imposed in 2022 following outbreaks of African swine fever (ASF) in Italy.
The result is the fruit of lengthy negotiations involving the Presidency of the Council, the Ministries of Foreign Affairs and Agriculture, with technical support from the Ministry of Health and the Italian Embassy in Belgrade.

The reopening of the Serbian market is an important signal for companies in the Italian pig sector.
The agreement introduces the principle of regionalization. All types of products from disease-free areas can be freely exported.
As regards the areas affected by outbreaks, Serbia has accepted the principle of the effectiveness of virus inactivation treatments, allowing the export of products that have been cooked or cured for more than six months.
