Increase in meat consumption in Uruguay

In 2017, pork consumption grew by 0.3%.

According to the data published by the National Meat Institute of Uruguay (INAC), in 2017, the consumption of meat per capita increased by almost 2 kg, reaching 100.9 kg per person.

The highest rise was that of beef, with a total of 59.2 kg (+1.4%), followed by chicken, with 20.4 kg and a growth by 0.4%, and pork, with 18,3% and an increase by 0.3%.

In the last 12 years the total meat consumption has grown by 20% (going from 84.1 to 100.9 kg/person/year). During this period, we have seen the doubling of the percentage of pork consumed, whilst that of lamb has dropped by half. Beef reached the highest share in 2010 (65%).
