Germany: number of pig-keeping holdings down by 3.1%

Since November 2013 the number of holdings that keep pigs for fattening has fallen by 900 (–3.9%) to about 22,700.

On the reference day, that is 3 May 2014, a total of 28.1 million pigs were kept in approximately 27,100 holdings in Germany. As the Federal Statistical Office reports on the basis of preliminary results, this means that the number of pigs has gone down slightly since November 2013 (–0.2%). The number of holdings that keep pigs declined by 3.1%.

Since November 2013 the number of holdings that keep pigs for fattening has fallen by 900 (–3.9%) to about 22,700.
