Germany produced more pork and less beef in the first half of 2025

In total, Germany produced 0.1% less meat compared to the first half of 2024.

According to preliminary data from the Federal Statistical Office (Destatis), German slaughterhouses produced almost 3.4 million tons of meat in the first half of 2025, representing a decrease of 0.1% (-1,900 tons) compared to the same period last year. In total, 23.9 million pigs, cattle, sheep, goats, and horses were slaughtered, as well as 346.1 million chickens, turkeys, and ducks during the first half of 2025.

In the first six months of the year, German slaughterhouses slaughtered 22.1 million pigs. This figure represents an increase of 0.7% (+156,900 head) compared to the same period last year. 98.2% of the pigs slaughtered (21.7 million) were of domestic origin (+2.3% or 486,600 head) compared to the previous year. In contrast, the number of pigs of foreign origin slaughtered decreased by 44.8% (-329,700 head), representing 1.8% (406,000 head).

The amount of pork produced in the first half of 2025 was 2.1 million tons, 1.8% (+38,100 tons) higher than the previous year.
