Germany: 1.5% increase in meat production

Pork production increased by 2.0% compared to last year.

In 2011, a total of 8.2 million tonnes of meat were produced commercially in Germany. Meat production increased by 119,000 tonnes ( 1.5%) on a year earlier, thus reaching a new record value. As also reported by the Federal Statistical Office (Destatis), the growth in production was due to increases in pork and poultry production, while a decline was recorded in beef production.

In the specific case of the pork, production amounted to over 5.6 million tons, exceeding by 2.0% or 800,106 tonnes the previous year's production.
