In 2009 the swine population in France fell by 1.7% and it is expected to continue decreasing in 2010, according to the forecasts there will be a reduction of 1.2%.

The first three months will be the most important since this corresponds with the period when the young pigs present in the November survey arrive to the slaughterhouse. A sharp decrease was observed for this period in 2009 compared to 2008 (-8.7%), and this fact will have repercussions on production during the first three months of 2010.
