The rules for animal welfare are followed in the majority of the country's pig and cattle herds. This is shown by the Animal Welfare Report published by the Danish Veterinary and Food Administration.

In 2024, the Danish Veterinary and Food Administration inspected 1,386 pig and cattle herds, where sanctions were imposed in 429 cases. This means 70% of the inspections did not result in sanctions. In cattle herds, no sanction was given in 67% of the inspection visits in 2024. In pig herds, the figure is 72%.

Eighty-four percent of the herds inspected in 2024 had corrected the violations at the first follow-up inspection visit.

The controls are risk-based, meaning they are targeted where the authorities assess the risk of violations is highest.
