More Danish farmers will have the opportunity to apply for subsidies to cover their slurry tanks and thus help reduce ammonia emissions.

Until now, it has only been possible to apply for a grant to cover one's slurry tank if the project amounted to more than DKK 300,000. Starting with the next round of applications, the Minister for Food, Agriculture and Fisheries Jacob Jensen (V) will allow smaller projects of up to DKK 100,000 to receive subsidies. This means that far more farmers will have the opportunity to reduce ammonia emissions from their manure tanks when the next round of applications is expected to open at the end of 2023.

The opportunity to apply for a grant to cover one's manure tank is one of the initiatives under the Rural Development Program 2014-2022. Specifically, the opening of the slurry container is covered with a tent, so that both odor and evaporation from ammonia are closed inside the tank. It helps to reduce ammonia emissions by up to 50%.

Until now, support has only been open to livestock farming, but with the adjustment of the amount limit, the minister is now opening the door for the scheme to also apply to plant farming in the future.
