The Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development, Mr. Aurelio Iragorri Valencia, highlighted how the farmlands and food helped in the rise of the exports, with a growth by 29.2% in March. Despite the traditional exports (coffee, bananas and flowers) still consolidated, new products such as cocoa, avocado and exotic fruit start to rise.

According to the DANE’s report, in March 2017 the total exports added up US$3,209.6 million FOB, with a growth by 37.9%, with the agriculture and livestock food and beverages sector holding the second place, with a rise by 29.2%, after the fuel and extractive industry products sector.

In 2016, the admissibility of 24 new agriculture and livestock products by foreign markets was reached. We must highlight beef being accepted by countries such as the Arab Emirates; cattle semen and embryos by Costa Rica; and eggs, chicken and pork by Peru.
