Chile will now import pork from Paraná after recognizing the state as a zone free of foot-and-mouth disease without vaccination. The Chilean authorities emphasized that the decision is part of efforts to strengthen commercial relations between the two countries, strengthening trade in agricultural products.
The Secretary of State for Agriculture and Supply, Marcio Nunes, highlighted the importance of the decision for the state, which “should generate more income for producers, more jobs, as well as appreciation and recognition of the quality and health of products, adding value and opening up space for other trade relations”.

In 2024, the state was Brazil's third-largest pork exporter, with 185,500 tons, behind Santa Catarina with 730,700 tons and Rio Grande do Sul with 289,900 tons.
The international seal recognizes the sanitary work done in the field by the producers themselves, as well as the agricultural cooperatives and state agencies, and served as a credential to open up new markets for the animal protein produced in the state.
Since then, the vaccination campaigns that used to take place twice a year have been replaced by herd updates, whose registration is mandatory to guarantee the traceability and health of the animals.
