The Minister of Health of Chile, Jaime Mañalich, has signed a Health Alert decree in Freirina to address issues affecting the residents of this town due to the deficiencies in the Agrosuper plant pigs. Along with this, the Secretary of State ordered the temporary closure of the company, located in the Atacama region, until measures are carried out to ensure adequate protection of the people’s health. With this, he seeks to put an end to the bad odors the neighbors of the plant receive every day.

Note that this plant closure involves making an assessment of the health status of their facilities and providing a mechanism to begin to feed more than 500 000 pigs that, in recent days, have not received food or water. In order to achieve this a work group comprising representatives from the Health Seremi of Atacama, SAG and community members was formed to discuss the most effective measures to implement.
