The new Food Labelling regulations come into effect next June 27. It is an initiative developed with particular concern for children. Its aim is to indicate the excess of critical nutrients in those foods that are high in sugar, sodium, saturated fat and calories. Implementation of the Law is currently in its pilot phase.

The latest polls show that 60% of Chileans do not understand the current nutrition labelling, without the stamps. For this reason, the new regulations of the Labelling Act deliver a clear message indicating, in a simple way, when foods are high in sugar, sodium, saturated fat and calories

According to the Ministry of Health, one of every three children under six in Chile is overweight. In addition, one person dies every hour because of excess weight-associated diseases, such as obesity, diabetes, high blood pressure and heart problems. This is why labelling seeks to provide more information that contributes to a better choice of food by consumers.
