The Canadian Swine Health Board (CSHB) is pleased that funding to continue its programming was included in the Federal Budget released earlier today. Funding hadbeen announced in the March 22nd Budget which did not pass because ofthe election call.

"This announcement demonstrates that government recognizes the importance in enhancing the health of the Canadian swine herd," said Florian Possberg, a Saskatchewan producer and Chair of the CSHB. "Our herd health programming has been developed to enhance the competitiveness of our producers and to provide market advantages for the Canadian industry. We can now continue to implement this programming that was delayed because of the dissolution of Parliament on March 26th."

Today’s budget included $24 million to extend CSHB programming for a further two years. Canada’s hog industry is aware of the ever-present threat of foreign animal disease outbreak, and this funding extension permits the continuation of projects that will allow the industry to continue to improve its capacity to react swiftly to emerging animal health challenges.
